A New Dress!

My first finish for 2023.
Another vintage style dress like the one I made last year.
I loved this fabric when I saw it and
thought it would be perfect for a dress.
This is the pattern I used.
Once again I added pockets
and lengthened this one a couple of inches.

My Vintage Inspired Dress

I did get the zip in and finish my dress!
I love the V back.

Although the dress looks blue in the above photos,
it is more a jade green. Hard to get a true colour in the photo.
I don't have an invisible zip foot for my machine, only a normal one.
Actually I didn't even know there was such a thing and I found it a
bit awkward sewing it in properly. I met with the Chit Chat Crafters
last week and sought some advice from my dressmaker friend Sally.
She showed me how to hand stitch the zip and before I knew it,
the zip went in perfectly! Sally also fitted the dress
for me but it didn't even need any alteration so I must have
got my measurements right and made the right size.

I'm so happy with how it turned out.
In fact, I think I'm going to buy some more fabric
and make myself another one!
Can't believe I'm saying that. LOL!
I did see some lovely rose fabric last time
I was at Spotlight that would be nice for a dress.

I Just Had To Have It!

No, not Ralph, Austin and Paris' puppy.
Although he is gorgeous!
You all needed some puppy spam, didn't you!
It was this beautiful vintage doily.
Marina from Maisie and The Boys recently shared a doily
she bought off ebay (you can see it here).
Hers has a Scotty dog on it.
So I had a look and came across this one.
I just love it.
It's not often that I will just buy something because I love it.
But I just HAD to have it!
It has been well looked after. The back is so neat.
I haven't been doing a lot of stitching lately.
What I have been doing is making myself a dress!
 I haven't made a dress with a zip in over 40 years.

I learnt to sew at school and then did proper dressmaking
classes at night when I was about 16 (I think).
I didn't really enjoy making clothes until I had the boys.
I made them windcheaters, tracksuit pants, shorts and tops.
I loved sewing for the boys and there were no zips!

I'm still not convinced I like dressmaking.
There's a lot to be said about going to a shop,
trying on a lovely dress and buying it! LOL!
I'll show it to you once it's finished.
