A Visitor .............

of the unwanted kind!
Last night Molly started barking and barking. She would not be quiet. Most times when you tell her to be quiet she stops. Ginger was sitting outside the front door and joined in too. I got up to see what Molly was looking at. She was just inside the back door and was very jumpy. I looked but couldn't see anything. Molly kept barking so I got a torch. Still nothing until I walked further around and walked onto the garden bed.

There, about 10 foot from the door, was a tiger snake approximately 3-4 foot long heading up the rock
behind my laundry! EEK! Hopefully, by now it's long gone.

I realised then that both her's and Ginger's barks were different. Did you know that dogs have a different bark for snakes? Already at Molly's young age she knew something was wrong!

Living next to the creek, we are always on the look out for snakes. This is the first one I've seen this summer. Although I did find a snake skin in the garden a few weeks ago, so we knew one had been around.

oooh... I can do without those visitors... I notice the birds around here make a particular kind of cry when they are warning about snakes too.... and my dog picks up on that and goes ballistic

Dogs are so good at letting us know when someone or something is around. Love my dog, glad yours gave you some warning about your unwelcome visitor. Hugs.....

ewwwww, I am glad you didn't post a picture as my computer would have been slammed shut very quickly.

I am glad the dogs spotted it before you did.

This is a visitor you really don't want to come over.

I so hate snakes. And there are a bunch actually around in town since it is so dry this year. Lucky you having such great guard dogs, it must make you feel so much safer, you know you will be warned :)

Once when I was early primary school age mum was waiting for the grocery delivery and the dog started barking...but it wasn't his grocery delivery bark and it was completely different to any of his other barks for various things...she went outside and he was keeping a tiger snake at bay...he warned her, she was able to keep us inside and deal with the snake all because that black labrador told her it was there...and years later when I was High School age our next dog saved our neighbour from being bitten when the dog stopped her from continuing along a path, she wouldn't let our neighbour go forward and it turned out there was a snake right where she would have stepped...well done Miss Molly, dogs are awesome...
