The Mystery Challenge for the 2013 North of the Yarra Quilt Exhibition was a covered journal. This is my entry.
My journal featured this beautiful little bird that Mel had given to me for my birthday last year. It is an original art illustration on fabric by Michelle L. Palmer. The name of the illustration is "Songbird Love". If you ever get to see one of these in person, you can see all the fine detail that just doesn't show up on the photo.
I found some vintage mother of pearl buttons in my stash. Cut a flower motif from an old doily (thanks Mum) and added some lace. My lovely friend Michelle of Rag Tag Stitchin' had sent me some lace with my birthday gift. It was just what I had been looking for. So after tea dyeing the lace, I was able to finish (actually start) my journal the week before the show. Nothing like leaving it to the last minute!
