You may remember my "Something Pretty For Me" quilt that I made back in 2007. I took it down to put up a couple of my Christmas quilts. I decided I'd give it a gentle wash as it is the first time it's come down since I hung it and the top of the quilt was a bit grubby from dust.
That's when the disaster happened. Some of the red ran! Before I made the quilt, I washed and washed the reds and nothing came out. It's probably a little more subtle in real life but I know it's there.

Does anyone know of anything I can do?
I guess I'll just have to live with it. Probably most people won't even notice it but I'll always know.
It was always in the back of my mind about the red.
I knew there was a reason I'd never washed it before!

Oooh Christine...such a disappointment when this happens when you do everything possible to stop it.
I brought some colour catcher (Punch brand)sheets from the supermarket. 15 in a packed. On some cream pants I got some licorice ice cream stain and put a wet die catcher onto the dye and left it there for a while and it seemed to draw out the color so you could try them. You may have to dampen the colour run area.
It may take a couple of goes, but worth a try.

Oh No Christine what a shame you can get some stuff from the supermarket in where the washing powders are and i think its called colour catcher it might be worth a go or check online,you might find something,dont give up i am sure there will be something you can do,good luck my friend.xx
I have used Punch Colour Catcher in the past with success. You can find it at the supermarket near all the laundry products. Good luck.
I feel your disappointment Christine - and I have no answers as I haven't had this happen as yet! 'Colour Catcher' is something new to me and is well worth trying - I am sure there will be someone on your followers list who will be able to help!! Good luck!

I had this happen to me with a quilt I am working on. I had washed all the blocks before putting them together. No colour ran. Then washed it after the quilting and noticed one colour had run. Used a colour catcher and it all came out. I will be washing all my quilts with a colour catcher, don't know how they work but they are a miracle.

Oh No... Feel for you... sounds like you have lots of help though and I did use something from the shelves in either Coles or Woolies and it worked... good luck xxx
I never wash fabric before I quilt as I like the crisp fabric when cutting and sewing but I DO use colour catcher sheets everytime I wash a quilt and never have an issue (even with red) You can find it in the laundry aisle. I wonder if it will work if you wash it again with a colour catcher.....such a shame!

How disappointing for you Christine. It's the worst feeling when you see the red run. I wish I knew the answer.
Oh no. I am feeling your pain and as I sit here reading this my Ruby Quilt is going through the wash for the first time ever. I've always been so scared to wash it but now its wet and all I want to do is run and get it out of the machine. I have three of the colour catchers mentioned above in with it. Im scared..... so scared :(
What a pain Christine. I was going to suggest colour catches too. Such a lot of beautiful work in this quilt. I would still put it up again as it isn't that noticeable. Hugs.......
Just letting you know that I have just got my Quilt out of the machine and all is good. Quilt is still in tack and the colour catchers are pink. maybe you could rewash your quilt with a little spray on where the fabric has run and a couple of colour catchers in there as well.

I read of your plight on Sharon's blog. I thought I'd throw my 'two bob's worth' in.... I use colour catchers in the wash all the time, so you could give them a try. The other suggestion I have is a product called "Runaway Colour Run Remover" by Dylon. I think it is readily available at the big supermarkets. Good luck!

What a shame. can you Erewash it and use dye catchers this time, spin dry so not sitting wet. Hope this helps.

Hello,
Try basting the Color Catcher sheets to specific areas and wash the quilt again (with a couple extra Color Catchers thrown in, just to be on the safe side). Good luck.

Dylon SOS colour run remover,I'm told it's very good.
There are a few different colour run removers out there.

I know they do when you first wash the quilt. I use them all the time and swear by them
Oh s..t. I took 20 years to finish a cross stitch picture and hand washed it in Softly before framing it. The red cotton ran into the white Aida, but I saw it happening and was able to quickly rinse it out. There is a very faint pink stain there that nobody has ever noticed since it was framed, so I don't say anything! But your beautiful quilt, and dye runs in so many sections....WAAAAAAH! I've heard of those dye removers and it sounds like one of them will save your quilt. Fingers crossed!
I'm so sorry to see this has happened to you! I see a lot of people suggesting color catchers, and I hope that works for you- but I would suggest that you also look for a product called Synthrapol... It has saved me when this happened to me, it's used to release/discharge dye. Many quilt shops carry it, or you can find it online- it's truly magical!
didn't have any advice Christine but so glad so many others have, will definitely take note before washing possible bleeders.

I had a block sent to me that had run and I used a tip from Pauline at Quilter's world. She puts natural yoghurt on the run and leaves it.She puts it on and washes it off until the stain isn't there anymore. I tried it on the block and it worked but I tried it on a run in My Town and it didn't so.... Maybe try it on the back where it isn't so noticeable if it doesn't work. Sad that this has happened though.
